THE SPACE AGE EXPERIENCE
THE ALTAIR PROGRAM FOR HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS

This program is designed to raise awareness of career opportunities in the space sciences and to inspire tomorrow’s science, engineers, and mathematicians by exposing them to NASA facilities and “cutting edge” technology. High School students will have the opportunity to spend a week at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and receive information and knowledge in a variety of onsite training programs ranging from robotics to space systems integration.

Among the many activities planned for students is Near Space Investigation. Participants will design and launchtheir own satellite payload up to a height of 100,000 feet (22 miles) into the atmosphere and make new observations.

The students will work as teams to develop “habitats” to  be tested on a balloon flight. They will operate as partof a mission control team by tracking the flight of the  balloon, collecting down linked data, and analyzing it.
